A boletín eléctrico is commonly the name used for the certificate relating to a home's electrical installation. If you've been asked to obtain one, find out exactly what is required before booking. The installer may need to assess or correct the installation as part of the work, so the price can involve more than preparing the document.

Find out why it has been requested

The certificate can come up in connection with new electrical work, alterations, registration or a supply-related process. Ask the person or company requesting it to identify the requirement, then give that information to the installer.

Be clear that this is different from an energy-performance certificate, which rates the building's energy characteristics. The low-voltage certificate concerns the electrical installation and is issued through the responsible installation company.

The visit may reveal work that needs doing

The Generalitat has different routes depending on the installation, including design memoranda, projects and inspections where required. Get the exact scope, filing, charges and final documents written into the quote.

If defects need correcting before the installation can be certified, ask for those separately. A promise to issue a certificate regardless of condition should make you question what is being checked.

Know who takes responsibility

Use an enabled low-voltage installation company and ask who signs and submits the documents. A property manager can coordinate the visit; they don't replace the electrical professional responsible for it.

Check the final address, holder and technical details. Keep the certificate or validated record, invoice and information about alterations with the property's documents. You may need them long after you've forgotten who booked the visit.

Before you go ahead

  • Reason for certificate identified
  • Applicable GVA procedure confirmed
  • Defect correction scope clear
  • Issuer details verified
  • Final validated document received

Common questions

Is a boletín the same as an energy certificate?

No. A low-voltage installation certificate concerns the electrical installation; an energy-performance certificate rates the building's energy characteristics.

Can it be issued without visiting?

Be cautious. The responsible installer must have a proper basis for certifying the installation and completing the required technical information.
